Make sure you are choosing the right contractor or installer when remodeling your home.

Better Business Bureau

Licensing and Insurance

Make sure that all insurance and licensing is current for the contractor you choose

References

Make sure that you talk to at least 3 customers for each company you are considering. Also make sure that you see at least 3 jobs up close that have been completed by all companies

Warranties

SEE ALL WARRANTIES DO NOT TAKE SOMEONE’S WORD ON WHAT THEY COVER. (Thoroughly exam and read it from start to finish). Ask to see the companies own labor warranty in writing. Make sure that all products carry a manufacturer’s warranty. (Some windows only carry warranties from the contractor putting them in).

Talk to the Owner/General Manager

Too many times homeowners find themselves in a conflict between what a sales person said and an installer says can be done and then are disappointed because what they were expecting didn’t ultimately happen. The only way to protect yourself is to talk to the person who is ultimately responsible for the completion of the job.

Portfolio

See samples of all products you are about to order, this is especially important when purchasing windows. Make sure you see a sample of the actual window you are going to have installed so you can make sure you understand and are satisfied with the units operation.

Become an educated consumer!

There are lots of resources available online to you to make sure you understand the differences in products so you can confidently make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Take time to see how the products you are considering are rated by independent third party organizations. Make sure that you have done a thorough walk through of the job and are confident you understand exactly what is going to happen and how the job will progress.

Certifications

Make sure that the crews installing your chosen products are Certified to do so. By doing this you are protecting your investment.
