Siding installation is a significant investment in your home’s exterior, not only enhancing its curb appeal but also providing protection against the elements. As you embark on this journey to enhance your property’s aesthetics and functionality, it’s natural to have questions and concerns. At Buresh Home Solutions, we understand the importance of clarity and transparency, and we’re here to address some of the most common questions we receive about our siding installation services from Des Moines homeowners.
Do I need to get a permit?
No siding replacement doesn’t require one if it did, we would handle it
How much experience do you have?
We’ve been installing siding since 1/3/2003
Do you have references for your work, and can I contact them?
For sure just ask
Are you licensed and registered in Iowa?
Yes, we are. Our license number is C095734.
What type of warranty do you have on your labor?
Since the beginning, we have had a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. Our belief is that no matter when it’s uncovered that we made an installation error it should be fixed for free including any ancillary work that may be needed. This is unlike many of our competitors’ 1-to-7-year warranties. This is important because an installation issue might not arise right away, and you could have more unexpected costs with other companies.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, we are fully insured including Worker’s Compensation for our employees.
Is there a supervisor on-site?
We have a Project Manager who will be on-site each day to ensure your satisfaction.
How long does it take to replace my siding?
Since all jobs are a little bit different it’s hard to say with certainty, but for most jobs, they will be in the range of 5 to 9 working days.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer a wide variety of excellent financing options through GreenSky or Medallion depending on your needs. To explore some of our payment plans and apply, visit our financing page.
Can I really justify paying more for a quality siding replacement job?
When it comes to siding replacement, the majority is due to product failure or improper application. Improper siding installation often invalidates the manufacturer’s warranty, making it crucial to find the right siding contractor with proven experience and integrity. We follow all the best practice installation guidelines given by each manufacturer and LIFETIME WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY on our work.
How can I tell if my siding needs replacement?
There are numerous signs that indicate your siding needs replacement, including the appearance of fungus, obvious separation of seams, swelling, delamination, caulking failure, warped appearance, paint failure, moisture on the inside of your property, and more.
What kind of siding does Buresh Home Solutions install?
We mostly install Everlast because our customers choose it. For the last 19 years, we have also done thousands of jobs installing vinyl siding, insulated siding, Hardie Plank, LP Smartside, and a few steel siding jobs.
How do I know which siding is best?
There are many options and different siding materials have different benefits, features, and price points. We can help you navigate your options to find the right siding material for your situation and then help you visualize your transformed home during our showroom appointment to go through options.
Who will be installing my siding?
To ensure a good experience during your installation, a dedicated production team spearheads the planning and overall execution of your project. The project manager will visit the job site each day and will be working with a team of installers who have been installing for us for years.
Do you remove old siding before installing new siding?
98% of the time yes, we do remove the old siding. There are some rare instances where we don’t, but our first choice is always to remove the siding when possible.
Other companies said they are going to leave the siding on, why do you insist on tearing it off?
A lot of times we are asked this question in our showroom where we can show what potentially might be hiding behind the old siding and we just don’t want to risk covering more problems that may need to be addressed later. (Video Link)
Will your siding fade?
All siding is going to fade. Sorry if you’ve been told something else. Just look at the warranty of the products and they will clearly state how much protection they offer. Everlast warrants their siding to not fade more than 3 Delta Hunter Units whereas a siding that advertises a no fade warranty only warrants 5 Delta Hunter units. Hunter Unit denotes the smallest degree of color change visible to the naked eye. Lower numbers are better.
You said around 70% of your customers choose Everlast over other options. Why is that?
Durability, looks more like wood than vinyl, LP, or Hardie Plank, and ZERO REQUIRED MAINTENANCE (Video Link)
What happens to my landscaping during my siding replacement project?
We value our client’s landscaping and will find every way to ensure no damage occurs. During the initial project meeting with production staff, you may let our team know if there are any special needs you may have.
What can I expect during the replacement of my siding:
We practice thorough property cleaning at the end of each day and perform an intensive cleanup once the job is completed. We’ll use shop vacuums and magnets to remove any stray nails or debris from your surrounding property. You will have a dedicated Project Manager from the start to the end of your project to ensure that all things get completed as expected.
Will the price change after the project starts?
We are committed to honoring our original price and I would say over 85% of the time we do that. Since we are tearing off old siding and exposing sheeting, framing, etc. there are times when rotten wood is exposed, and our customers want us to do what is right. Depending on the significance of the damage there be no extra charges or charges which are agreed upon with you to cover labor and material.
Will water get behind your siding?
Yes, that is why it is important to install house wrap, tape the seams and install all necessary flashings including z-flashing and kick-out flashing.
Why when I drive down the street and a lot of siding looks wavy?
That is typically a function of installation and most likely it got nailed too tightly or there was too much space between fasteners.
Can I paint my vinyl siding?
Physically, yes it can be painted. Depending on color it can affect heat absorption causing the siding to buckle, warp, or curl. Also, the expansion and contraction at seams will also expose different colors. If for example, you painted the siding on a warm sunny day the next winter, you are going to see old colors as in contracts.
What is the most avoidable issue with vinyl siding?
Melting of siding due to a BBQ being too close!
How do I clean my siding?
For just general cleaning of cobwebs and dirt, a garden hose on high might work just fine. For more stubborn elements check with the care and maintenance directions from the manufacturer and stay away from any cleaners containing organic solvents, undiluted chlorine bleach, liquid grease remover, nail polish remover, or furniture polish or cleaners.
What is Everlast made of?
Everlast’s is made up of a unique combination of pulverized stone, inorganic minerals, polymer resins, and acrylic colorants which creates an extremely durable siding panel.
Can I power wash my siding?
Yes, but be careful. When using a power washer, it is extremely important to keep the stream of water straight at eye level to ensure the water does not get behind the siding. Will I ever need to do anything to my siding? To keep our vinyl and Everlast siding options looking their best, they should be washed periodically to remove the mold, mildew, dirt, and chalky oxidation that collects on the surface. With the LP and Hardie Plank (Cement Board) option you will need to maintain as directed in product warranties which will include maintaining caulking and painting.
I live on a busy street. Can siding replacement do anything to lower the amount of noise?
Our CedarMax insulated vinyl will help with that and by adding a fanfold insulating underlayment we can help with that with other siding options.
Should I use insulation under my siding?
Installing fan fold foam or polystyrene insulation under the siding is a choice for homeowners who are seeking to protect their homes against moisture infiltration as well as improve energy efficiency vs. the installation of house wrap. Your best bang for your buck will come from having insulation blown into your walls and when replacing siding it is a good time to get it done. From a cost perspective house wrap will be the least expensive underlayment, next will be all the varieties of fan fold insulations whether foam or polystyrene. The most expensive option would be to have insulation blown into the wall, but this will also perform better than other options.
